Work-up

  • Rule out open globe injury
    • Mechanism of injury?
    • Seidel test?
    • Consider fundus examination in mydriasis, especially if intraocular foreign body is suspected
      • Ultrasound (not if open globe is suspected!) or high-resolution CT of the orbit for detailed assessment.

Treatment

  • Floxal eye drops 3-4 times a day until healed
  • < 1 cm, no gaping edges, without involvement of the limbus:
    • Allow spontaneous healing
  • > 1 cm, gaping, or involving the limbus:
    • Suture with Vicryl 8-0 thread
