Work-up
- Rule out open globe injury
- Mechanism of injury?
- Seidel test?
- Consider fundus examination in mydriasis, especially if intraocular foreign body is suspected
- Ultrasound (not if open globe is suspected!) or high-resolution CT of the orbit for detailed assessment.
Treatment
- Floxal eye drops 3-4 times a day until healed
- < 1 cm, no gaping edges, without involvement of the limbus:
- Allow spontaneous healing
- > 1 cm, gaping, or involving the limbus:
- Suture with Vicryl 8-0 thread
